Culcheth is saying a fond farewell to Louise Wilmott, the much-loved dog groomer behind Time for Pets on Common Lane, after 15 years of keeping our dogs looking less like sofa cushions dragged through a hedge.
Louise started grooming dogs from her shed back in 2008, which is exactly the sort of practical, quietly impressive village enterprise we should be making more fuss about. From there, she built Time for Pets in Culcheth into a trusted local business, and anyone who has ever tried to persuade a wet spaniel to behave will know that is no small achievement.
According to the report by Nathan Okell in the Warrington Guardian, Louise is leaving the salon for a new chapter in Wales with her husband, heading to Anglesey at the beginning of March. Frankly, swapping clippers and muddy paws for sea air sounds rather tempting, though Culcheth will definitely feel the gap.
The announcement on the Time for Pets Facebook page said:
After 15yrs of owning Time for Pets, it is time to hand over my scissors.
I am finishing grooming on Wednesday, February 12, as myself and my husband are off to start our next chapter in Anglesey at the beginning of March.
As most of you know that Hannah, of Pipp ‘N’ Belle, will be taking over from myself on Thursday, February 22.
Please contact her for any appointment queries or to book in on 07369275421.
I would just like to say a massive thankyou to all my customers, new and old, for supporting me over the years and entrusting me in looking after your fur babies. I will miss you all.
The good news, and it is genuinely good news, is that the business is being handed over rather than shuttered. Hannah, of Pipp ‘N’ Belle, is taking over, so Culcheth’s pampered pooches should not have to endure a grooming crisis. Nobody wants to see Common Lane overrun with dogs looking like Victorian chimney sweeps.
Customers have been full of warm messages, which says everything about the kind of service Louise has provided. One said: We will all miss you. Hope your new venture goes well. You have been a good friend for my family and my dogs.
Another added: Going to miss you Louise. You have been so good and patient with all our dogs, past and present over the past 15 years. Enjoy and have fun on your new journey, and as I can testify, if you do not do it now, you never will.
There was also, oddly, a bit of boilerplate in the original article about an exclusive subscriber partnership with USA Today and The Herald, which feels hilariously overpowered for a village dog grooming story. Culcheth news does not need transatlantic scaffolding to tell us Louise is off to Anglesey, but there we are, modern media has its mysteries.
Still, the heart of the story is simple: a local business owner built something trusted, served the village for 15 years, and is leaving with a lot of goodwill behind her. That is worth celebrating, scissors, shampoo and all.
