Partridge Lakes Cafe and Park in Culcheth, Warrington, has opened its new Partridge Park Walk for the summer, and yes, it is giving proper lakeside day-out energy without requiring half the village to queue on the M56.
After hosting its Springland event with live characters over the Easter holidays, the site is now welcoming visitors to a dog-friendly lakeside trail with a sandy beach, extra food and drink huts, outdoor seating, and a small fleet of character pedalos including a unicorn, flamingo and dragon. Because apparently a normal pedalo is no longer enough, it must now look like it escaped from a school fairytale week.
The new Partridge Park Walk is pram and wheelchair accessible, which is genuinely good to see. Too many so-called family attractions forget that families often come with wheels, dogs, grandparents and at least one child having a dramatic moment over a snack.
The pedalos cost £15 for a 20-minute session and run from 10am to 2pm on selected dates. Visitors can book online and pick the pedalo they fancy. Lovely idea, though £15 for 20 minutes is not exactly loose change, especially if multiple children decide they simply cannot live unless they have their own floating unicorn.
The walk is described as a lakeside trail through the natural world, with points of interest along the route plus giant games including Connect 4 and Kerplunk. There are benches and picnic benches dotted about, so those who prefer supervising from a seated position with a coffee can do so with dignity.
Food and drink are also part of the new set-up, with refreshment huts selling pizzas, coffees and more, plus a bar serving alcohol and a new lakeside outdoor seating area. The main Partridge Lakes Cafe remains open too, and is already well known locally for being dog-friendly inside and out. Dog treats are available to buy, along with food for the fish and ducks, because even the wildlife in Culcheth appears to have a catering arrangement.
Dogs are also allowed to have a swim when it is quiet, which is a nice touch. Sensible, too, because nobody needs a Labrador launching itself through a crowded picnic scene like a furry torpedo.
Owners Barbara Ikin and Callum Morgan said they have enjoyed a strong start to the year and that the lakes are looking stunning in the spring sunshine. They said the team has worked hard on new attractions and facilities for 2026, including the Partridge Park trail, extra refreshment outlets, the lakeside setting and the new colourful pedalos for summer hire.
Partridge Lakes will also host the Cheshire Wellness Festival on Sunday, June 28, promising a day to pause, reset and reconnect. In plain Culcheth terms, that likely means fresh air, calming views and hopefully nobody arguing over who forgot the picnic blanket.
The attraction sits next to Partridge Lakes Fishery, which covers 70 acres and includes 394 pegs across 15 waters. It is already a familiar name to anglers, families and anyone who has ever fancied a peaceful wander near water without needing to drive to the Lake District and remortgage for parking.
There has also been a welcome change to the usual fireworks plans for this year. Instead of a traditional fireworks display, Partridge Lakes is planning a professional laser show synchronised to music alongside low-noise fireworks with no bangs. The owners said they felt uneasy continuing with traditional fireworks knowing how many families and pets struggle with the noise. That is a thoughtful decision, and frankly, more places could take note.
Partridge Park Walk is open daily from 7.30am to 5pm, with refreshment huts open on selected dates. The main cafe is open daily, including bank holidays, from 7.30am to 4.30pm, with last hot food served at 3pm.
