Liberty’s Gin Bar in Culcheth has had its asking price reduced in an attempt to secure a “quick sale”, after sitting on the market since the end of July.
That is a slightly gloomy development for one of the village’s better-known nightlife spots, although it is not being sold because the owners claim it is failing. They say retirement is the reason for the sale, describing Liberty’s as a successful, award-winning bar with plenty of room to develop. In other words, the business is apparently retiring before the cocktail shaker does.
The owners first announced the sale with a statement saying: “It is with a heavy heart we have decided to sell Liberty’s due to retirement.
“It is a successful, award-winning bar and has the latest licence in the village, which is 3am, and it has huge potential to progress even further.”
Located off Common Lane, Liberty’s picked up the Pub of the Season award from the regional Campaign for Real Ale group in October 2021. It has also attracted a few recognisable faces, with professional boxer and Love Island finalist Tommy Fury, brother of Tyson, known to have visited the village watering hole.
The venue is certainly not short on facilities. Inside, there is a large dance floor, a DJ booth, a spacious fully equipped bar and booth seating. Double doors lead to a mezzanine with more seating, a large VIP area and a pool table, because apparently one floor of drinking and dancing was considered insufficient.
Liberty’s also has a large projection screen, numerous televisions, and ladies’ and gents’ toilets. Downstairs is a second bar, alongside a fully fitted commercial kitchen with a five-star rating. There are further toilets, another fully equipped DJ booth, a log burner, another projection screen and four TVs regularly showing Sky Sports.
On October 10, the owners posted on social media that the price had been “further reduced for a quick sale”. Reasonable offers will be considered, although the lack of a buyer so far suggests that even an award-winning Culcheth venue cannot simply name its price and expect the village to stampede through the doors.
