Culcheth’s latest literary resident has attracted a visit from an MP, who joined Friends of Culcheth Library to view the new bookworm statue carving.
It is a cheerful moment for the village and a welcome reminder that libraries are about far more than shelves, stamps and the eternal hunt for a book someone has already borrowed. A bookworm statue may not solve every challenge facing local services, but it certainly gives Culcheth something imaginative to celebrate.
The visit also shines a useful light on the work of Friends of Culcheth Library, whose involvement helps keep the library visible and valued in the community. Having an MP take an interest is positive, although residents could be forgiven for judging political enthusiasm by what happens beyond the photo opportunity.
