Manchester City footballer Phil Foden has been enjoying a couple of days at Partridge Lakes Fishery in Culcheth with his family. Not a bad choice, frankly: peaceful water, open countryside and considerably less pressure than a Premier League midfield.
The fishery said it had the “absolute pleasure” of welcoming Foden and his family, who are described by the team as “lovely, down-to-earth, and genuine”. That is rather refreshing in a world where celebrity visits can sometimes arrive with more entourage than actual personality.
Foden is a keen angler and this is not his first visit to the Warrington beauty spot. Partridge Lakes has also welcomed former England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, so the fishery is quietly building an impressive footballing guest list without needing to plaster the place in flashing neon.
In a post, the Partridge Lakes team wrote: “It was a real privilege to have them spend some time with us.
“Such a genuinely lovely, down-to-earth family, and an absolute pleasure to welcome to the fishery.
“We hope you all had a fantastic time with us and we’d love to welcome you back to Partridge Lakes again soon.”
For Culcheth, it is a welcome bit of positive attention, and a reminder that our corner of Warrington can hold its own as a destination. Though if the fish start demanding football shirts and VIP treatment, we may have a problem.
