The Cherry Tree in Culcheth has reopened after a three-week, top-to-bottom makeover, and it seems the familiar local has decided that standing still is strictly for the dartboard.
The pub now has a brighter bar area, fresh furnishings, a new activity space with a dartboard and a more comfortable dining area. It is a sensible refresh rather than a needless reinvention, keeping the character people already enjoy while giving the place a cleaner, livelier feel.
The menu has had an overhaul too, although several established favourites have wisely survived the clipboard of change. The Honey Clucker, Crispy Sweet Chilli Chicken and Pork Tomahawk are all back, which should please regulars who do not appreciate their favourite dinner disappearing in the name of culinary progress.
Lisa Cleworth, general manager at The Cherry Tree, said: “We couldn’t be more excited to show off the pub’s new look. It’s been amazing seeing guests walk in and instantly feel at home. Whether you're popping in to watch the big game, grabbing a bite with the kids, or just catching up over a drink, we’ve kept everything you love about the place with a bit of extra sizzle.”
There is also something happening most nights, so this is not a makeover followed by tumbleweed. Live sport will be shown on the big screens, the pub quiz returns every Wednesday at 8:30pm, karaoke takes over on Fridays from 9:00pm, and Saturdays feature regular live music from 9:00pm.
That broad mix is a definite strength. Families, sports fans, quiz devotees and karaoke enthusiasts can all find their slot, although whether the last group should be handed microphones is a matter for local residents and their noise tolerance.
Overall, The Cherry Tree appears to have struck the right balance: a brighter, more comfortable setting without throwing away the food and entertainment that made it popular in the first place. For Culcheth, a lively pub that understands the value of a decent revamp is welcome news.
