Rain may have tried to gatecrash the occasion, but Culcheth High School’s Year 11 students were having none of it. They arrived at The Fir Grove Hotel in Grappenhall dressed to impress, ready to celebrate the end of their GCSEs and, presumably, several years of homework-induced drama.
The leavers’ prom gave students a chance to let their hair down before results day later this summer. With exams finally consigned to history, the evening was all about dressing up, catching up and enjoying a well-earned night of celebration. Quite right too - surviving Year 11 deserves more than a polite clap and a supermarket cake.

The event formed part of wider prom coverage across Warrington, with photographs also planned from Great Sankey High School, Penketh High School, Kings Leadership Academy, St Gregory’s Catholic High School, Bridgewater High School, Beamont Collegiate Academy, Lymm High School, Birchwood Community High School, Cardinal Newman Catholic High School, Padgate Academy, Sir Thomas Boteler, Green Lane School and UTC.
The collection captures the polished outfits, proud parents and youthful excitement of the class of 2022. The only slightly awkward note is the article’s bulky editorial disclaimer about an exclusive subscriber partnership with USA Today and its claim that the piece does not necessarily reflect the view of The Herald. For a local prom photo feature, that is rather a lot of publishing machinery rattling in the background.
Still, the main story is a cheerful one. Culcheth High School students marked a major milestone in style, and a bit of drizzle was never going to steal the spotlight.
