Culcheth's highest-rated coffee shop on Tripadvisor is up for sale - Warrington Guardian

McDee’s Coffee Shop on Lodge Drive, Culcheth’s Tripadvisor favourite, is on the market for £145,000. A familiar local fixture may soon have new hands behind the counter.

There is potentially a rather large change brewing on Lodge Drive, as McDee’s Coffee Shop, Culcheth’s highest-rated coffee shop on Tripadvisor, is being offered for sale.

The family-run café has been trading since 2000, with the current owners at the helm since 2016. After years of serving the local community, the Cozens family is looking for new owners so it can concentrate on its other businesses, Java to Go and Bar Java.

McDee’s has built up an average Tripadvisor rating of 4.5 out of 5, which is no small achievement in a village where opinions on coffee, cake and the correct level of froth can be remarkably firm. Its afternoon teas and fresh, homemade food are among the café’s specialities.

The business is being marketed for £145,000 and is described as suitable for an “owner operating team who could push the business forward”. That sounds promising, although regular customers may reasonably hope that “pushing forward” does not mean bulldozing the character that made McDee’s popular in the first place.

For a hands-on owner, the café appears to offer an established customer base, a strong local reputation and a prominent place in Culcheth’s busy village life. For everyone else, the prospect of new management is a reminder that even the most familiar coffee counter is still a business, not a permanent fixture of the landscape.

The report was written by Tom Bedworth through a subscriber partnership with USA Today, with a note that it does not necessarily reflect the view of The Herald. McDee’s Coffee House Culcheth also promotes the business through its Instagram account, @mcdeesonthegreen.
