Holcroft Grange Care Home in Culcheth has launched a monthly series of themed days, giving residents the chance to explore different cultures without needing a passport or an airport queue.
This month, the spotlight was firmly on India. Residents took part in games and a quiz, then enjoyed dancing to Indian music. It sounds like a far more entertaining way to learn than most classroom lessons, and certainly a more energetic one.
The Raj, a local business, generously donated all the food for the event, adding a deliciously practical touch to the celebration. Cultural education is all very well, but it is considerably more memorable when there is something tasty on the plate.
The care home plans to feature a different culture each month. It is a thoughtful initiative that encourages curiosity, conversation and community spirit, while giving residents plenty of opportunities to enjoy themselves. Holcroft Grange has clearly realised that enrichment should involve more than a television quietly muttering in the corner.
