Culcheth - BBC

Culcheth’s forecast is doing its usual costume change: sunshine, breezes, a thunder wobble, then proper summer warmth. Lovely, unless your hay fever is filing a complaint.

Culcheth is getting the full North West sampler pack: sunny intervals, a moderate breeze, a few moody showers, and then a stretch of actual summer weather that may cause locals to stare suspiciously at the sky.

Today looks decent enough, with sunny intervals, a high of 21C, a low of 11C, and westerly winds around 14mph. The afternoon and evening are especially civilised, with the forecast showing little to no chance of rain from mid-afternoon onwards. Frankly, for Culcheth, that is practically Mediterranean, if the Mediterranean came with wheelie bins and a cardigan.

The environmental bits are worth noting too: sunrise at 04:44, sunset at 21:43, high pollen, moderate UV, and low pollution. So yes, the air is relatively clean, but your nose may still behave like it has been personally insulted by a field.

  • Monday 29 June: Sunny intervals, gentle breeze, high of 21C, low of 14C.
  • Tuesday 30 June: Thundery showers, gentle breeze, high of 21C, low of 13C. Classic sky theatrics.
  • Wednesday 1 July: Light rain showers, high of 20C, low of 14C.
  • Thursday 2 July: More light rain showers, moderate breeze, high of 20C, low of 11C.
  • Friday 3 July: Sunny intervals return, high of 21C, low of 13C.
  • Saturday 4 July: Light rain showers again, because apparently the weather cannot let us get cocky.
  • Sunday 5 July: Sunny intervals, high of 22C, low of 14C.

After that, things perk up nicely. From Monday 6 July through to Saturday 11 July, Culcheth is looking at mostly sunny conditions, with highs around 25C to 26C. That is proper sit-outside weather, though naturally the breeze remains, because this is Warrington, not Provence.

The wider forecast for North West England and Merseyside says we should expect cooler-than-recent temperatures at first, sunny spells, scattered showers from the west on Tuesday, and a risk of thunder in places. Wednesday brings patchy cloud and the odd light shower, while Thursday should be largely dry once early cloud clears. In other words, the atmosphere is doing admin before allowing summer to clock back in.

The observation from Rostherne no 2 at 09:00 BST on Sunday 28 June recorded light cloud, 19C, west-south-westerly winds averaging 8mph, 74 percent humidity, excellent visibility, and pressure rising at 1013mb. That is reassuringly normal, which is more than can be said for anyone trusting a two-week forecast without emotional preparation.

Nearby Weather Watchers have also been busy: Northern Rambler reported sunshine in Standish, Wigan, DavidUpOnTheLow spotted sunny intervals in Haughton Green, Tameside, and Ganymede reported sun in Littleborough, Rochdale. Very poetic, very wholesome, and slightly annoying if their skies look better than ours.

Overall, Culcheth gets a passable week, with a few damp interruptions and one thunderous sulk on Tuesday, followed by a genuinely promising run of sunshine. The good news is the pollution is low and the evenings are long. The bad news is the pollen is acting like it owns the place.
