The refurbishment plans were submitted to Warrington Council in February, with the library originally expected to close for 15 weeks from the beginning of March. One small mercy during the closure was that no fines were issued for overdue books. A sensible decision, given that returning a library book to a building site would have been an impressive achievement.

The library will open from 10am until 1pm, with tours available so visitors can see what the ambitious refurbishment has delivered. Refreshments will also be provided, because even the most enthusiastic library tour benefits from tea and something resembling a biscuit.
There will be a range of activities for visitors, and the event will be attended by Joe Philbin, the Warrington Wolves star. That should add a little extra excitement to what is already a welcome boost for Culcheth.
