Danny’s Barber Shop on Warrington Road, Culcheth, has been handed a £15,000 civil penalty by the Home Office for breaching illegal working legislation.
The business appears on a government list of employers issued with illegal working penalties between April and June last year. It was included after either failing to make regular payments towards the fine or receiving further penalty notices.
That is a substantial bill by anyone’s standards, and certainly more than most people would expect to pay for even the most ambitious haircut. More importantly, the case highlights the paperwork and legal responsibilities businesses must meet when employing staff.
The Home Office list describes the penalty, but it does not provide further detail about the individual circumstances behind the case. Danny’s Barber Shop has not responded to a request for comment from the Warrington Guardian.
