Cheshire Police

Culcheth police are part of the Cheshire Constabulary, which gained a good report by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS). The national inspection system was revised in April 2026 and places each constabulary in one of four categories. Level Three means that there are serious concerns about performance and Level Four makes the constabulary subject to Special Measures intervention. In the latest report Cheshire was placed in the top category of Level One, which means that it is capable of continuous improvement and managing any issues that were identified in the inspection.

Levels of crime/incident per 1,000 population in Cheshire are below the national average. Police officer cost per head of population in Cheshire is £98 compared to an average of £117 across England and Wales. Victim satisfaction in Cheshire is 87%, two percentage points higher than the national average. The Chief Constable, Mark Roberts, said ‘This follows our recent end-of-year figures where we were ranked top in the country for crime outcome rates and we had the highest charge/summons outcome rate in the UK for overall crime, demonstrating our commitment to bringing offenders to justice and protecting vulnerable people’.

Cheshire Police was the only force last year to be graded ‘outstanding’ for managing offenders and suspects, and one of just two forces to receive an ‘outstanding’ grade for protecting vulnerable people. This diagram gives a brief summary of the inspection findings:
